From the artist -
When I had my house built 18 years ago, there was a tree that the bears had clawed and marked -- that was my first clue I would be living in their house. Right after my small house was finished, I had a pond built and lined with clay, hoping to teach fly fishing classes. I caught warm water fish and stocked my pond. I planted Arrowroot, which the bears seem to enjoy. I did many things to make my pond come alive…

Then I started planting and maintaining wild blueberries, blackberries, strawberries on my land... why stop there? crabapple, apple, elderberry, chokecherry, dogwood
were planted... and so it goes. My flower beds kept getting larger; Monarch Butterflies hatch and stop over on their way back South. Creating this kind of ecosystem has brought me much closer to wildlife. They are not pets or friends, we just peacefully coexist. Birds are nesting on my house. Rabbits are living under my porch. Bears swim in my pond, wood ducks nest in my boxes … and I am still not done creating!

My camera of choice is Canon 6 D ll with a Tamron 600. For me that is my best wildlife lens. I learned to develop film many years ago and have taken many photography workshops in the past; I am so glad EVERYTHING is digital!
I print and mount all my own work. If you have any
questions, please ask me at the reception!
